- Beef Broth – I use low sodium so I can control the seasoning to my taste.
- Worcestershire Sauce – this helps give it a deeper flavor that you don’t get without drippings. You can also use soy sauce.
- Onion Powder
- Garlic Powder
- Butter
- Salt
- Black Pepper
- Cold Water
- Cornstarch

How To Make Brown Gravy
- Melt. In a small saucepan melt butter over medium heat.
- Simmer. Pour in the broth along with the Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, garlic powder, salt and pepper. Let the mixture come to a simmer and let it cook for 5-10 minutes for the flavors to concentrate.
- Thicken. In a separate bowl mix together the cold water with the cornstarch until smooth. Slowly add to the beef broth mixture. Continue to simmer and stir for 2-3 minutes until has thicken.
- Serve. Remove the gravy from the heat and pour into a serving dish. Serve with your favorite potatoes, roast, meatloaf or whatever you like!

Recipe Tips & Tricks
- Want a darker gravy? Kitchen Bouquet Browning and Seasoning Sauce is great to add to gravy. Just a few drops will give you a richer, darker color as well as a little more flavor.
- Slurry. This recipe uses cornstarch and water to thicken, this is called a slurry. I prefer a slurry when making gravy because I think you get a smoother and silkier gravy.
- Have Drippings? You can absolutely use drippings if you have them to make this gravy. Measure out how much liquid you have, and just top it off with beef broth to get to the 2 cups. The rest of the recipe will remain the same.
- Add Flavor. You can really add a lot to this gravy to change the flavor. Fresh herbs like rosemary or thyme are great to add more flavor. Or a splash of red wine gives it that little something extra.

Storage
You can store leftover gravy in an airtight container for up to 5 days in the fridge. Reheat in a saucepan until it is warmed through.
Freezing
Did you know you can freeze gravy? Store in an airtight container in the freezer for 3-4 months. Let it thaw in the fridge and then reheat on the stovetop.
