Snicker Salad – a sweet and tart dessert salad that is made with whipped cream, vanilla pudding mix, green apples and Snickers candy. A potluck staple that is super easy to make!
When I was growing up, this Snickers Salad was at pretty much every event, every potluck, and every family gathering. It is a Mid-West staple, and so darn easy to make!

I grew up calling this Snicker Apple Salad, in Minnesota and Wisconsin, it was just what I knew it as. But over the years I have also heard it called Candy Salad, Caramel Apple Salad and now just Snickers Salad.
One variation you will see a lot if a drizzle of caramel over the top. That wasn’t traditional for my family, but it would definitely be a delicious addition. This is probably the one and only time I will say it is sweet enough and doesn’t need it. But if you love it, make it that way!

What You’ll Need
Be sure to scroll to the bottom of the post for the FULL PRINTABLE recipe card.
- Granny Smith Apples – the tart apples work well, everything else is very sweet
- Snickers Candy Bars– you need 4-5 full size, or I use 12 fun size
- Vanilla Pudding Mix
- Milk
- Heavy Whipping Cream or Cool Whip
When I was a kid it was always a tub of Cool Whip in this salad, but as I have grown up, I much prefer to make fresh whipped cream and use that, it is so good!

How To Make Snicker Salad
- Prep Apples. Wash your apples well and cut them into small cubes. Then cut your Snickers candy into small chunks.
- Whipped Cream. If you are using heavy cream, whip your cream to stiff peaks. If using Cool Whip, just make sure it is thawed.
- Pudding. In a large bowl whisk together milk and vanilla pudding mix until well combined.
- Add Cream. Add whatever whipped cream you are using to the pudding mixture to the whipped cream and whisk until well combined and still has stiff peaks.
- Combine. Add in the apples and snickers, and stir until well combined.
- Serve. Store in the fridge until ready to serve.

Recipe Variations
This is a very basic recipe, that you can mix up to make different version for different events.
- Add caramel sauce. Lots of recipes call for adding about 1/4 cup of caramel over the top before serving.
- You can use sugar free version of the pudding and Cool Whip if you wanted to cut down on the calories
- Mix up the candy! Milky Way, Twix, Kit Kat all work really well instead of the Snickers.
- Switch the pudding flavor. Vanilla is the classic flavor for the pudding in this recipe, but others would work well. Use butterscotch or maybe try chocolate for something different.
- Different fruit. Grapes instead of apples would be a fun twist for this recipe.

Storage
This is best served within a couple hours of making as the apples can turn brown. Cover and store in the fridge until ready to serve. There is nothing wrong with it, so you can enjoy the leftovers for a few days.
Make Ahead
The apples tend to turn brown so you want to toss them in lemon juice and then pat them dry before making this. This will leave them white longer and not change the color of your salad. If you treat the apples, you can make this salad about a day ahead of time.

Now, this is what I call a salad! It’s everything I will ever love in one bowl, and since salad is healthy…
This looks and sounds absolutely delicious!! I am so excited to try it!
This is my type of salad! It has all the ingredients I love!
This is definitely a salad I can get behind!!! So perfect for a dessert!
Who in their right mind thinks a HALF CUP of milk is enough for 3.4 Oz of pudding mix?? This is not combining at all, and is a chunky mess. Please fix your recipe.
It isn’t supposed to make a pudding like texture. 1/2 cup of milk is correct and this recipe has been around like this for over 50 years. The pudding helps flavor the whipped cream it gets mixed with and the milk helps thin it out just enough to coat the apples. The recipe is correct.
What size snickers bars? Full size? Fun size?
In the What You’ll Need Section of the post it says Snickers Candy Bars- you need 4-5 full size, or I use 12 fun size
mix the pudding mix with the whipped cream, add the 1/2 cup of milk. Then add that to the chopped ingredients. Don’t dump it in one by one and expect it to mix well.
